How long does Monaco exterior paint last on Ugandan buildings?
When applied correctly over a properly prepared and primed surface, Monaco Weatherguard and Abertone typically deliver 5 to 7 years of performance under Uganda's tropical conditions. Longevity is significantly affected by surface preparation quality, the number of coats applied, and the specific exposure of the surface — walls facing direct westerly afternoon sun or sitting in consistently shaded, damp areas will behave differently. Applying two full coats over Monaco Surface Primer, and addressing any cracks or surface defects before painting, maximises the lifespan of your exterior finish.
What is the best time of year to paint exteriors in Uganda?
The dry seasons — typically December to February and June to August — are ideal for exterior painting in Uganda. During these periods, low humidity and minimal rainfall allow paint to cure properly and adhere firmly to the surface. Avoid painting exteriors during or immediately after heavy rain, as moisture trapped beneath the paint film can cause bubbling, peeling, and adhesion failure. If painting during the rainy season is unavoidable, work in the mornings on dry days, allow adequate drying time between coats, and ensure the surface has been completely dry for at least 48 hours before beginning.
Does Weatherguard prevent mould and algae on exterior walls?
Yes — Monaco Weatherguard is formulated with a built-in fungal and algae inhibitor that actively resists the growth of mould, algae, and lichen on exterior surfaces. This is especially important in Uganda, where high humidity, shade, and monsoon rainfall create ideal conditions for biological growth on building facades. For walls that have previously suffered from severe mould or algae, we recommend thoroughly cleaning and treating the surface with an appropriate fungicide wash before priming and painting, to ensure the inhibitor in Weatherguard is working on a clean substrate for maximum effect.
